Copper brooches: bold statement jewellery

Made from copper sheet, and darkened to a rich bronze patina with liver-of-sulphur. Vintage references to sentimental costume jewellery and “good luck” symbols.

Lucky Thirteen, and Black Cat have a slightly sinister aspect. Are they good or bad luck?

Lucky Horseshoe and Wishbone are more clearly symbols of good luck. All of these designs were drawn out using Procreate on IPad Pro, with Apple Pencil. To apply to the copper sheet, I size them to the actual dimensions of the jewellery, print, adhere with photo mount repositionable glue, and pierce using my lovely Knew Concepts saw.

Pretty surface details break up the large areas, with stamped pattern: circles, flowers, dots etc. Wishbone is the largest 8.5cm wide, so small scale surface texture is an important addition. Jewellery might be seen from a distance but the wearer is close and intimate with each piece, which is why I like to include small textures, and nice handmade pins.
